The Grant is designed to remove financial barriers that limit participation in global spaces where artistic practice, cultural exchange, and professional growth take place. It supports Nigerian creatives whose work and practice would benefit meaningfully from international exposure, learning, and exchange.
Scope
The Grant supports individual artistic and professional development, with a focus on international exposure, learning, and participation.
It is intended for Nigerian artists and cultural practitioners whose practice aligns with global artistic discourse and who can demonstrate how international engagement will contribute to their long-term creative and professional growth.
WHAT THE GRANT COVERS
The Grant may support costs directly related to approved international opportunities, including:
Travel expenses
Accommodation
Participation or registration fees
Relevant logistics directly tied to the opportunity
The Grant does not fund production costs, exhibitions, or local projects.

ELIGIBILITY
The Grant is open to Nigerian artists and cultural practitioners working across disciplines, including but not limited to visual arts, writing, performance, film, curatorial practice, and cultural research.
Applicants must:
Be Nigerian
Demonstrate an active artistic or cultural practice
Show clear relevance between the proposed opportunity and their development goals
SELECTION PROCESS
The Allen Onyema Artistic Development Grant is open to all eligible applicants.
Applications are reviewed by MMÉLÌ Arts Foundation through an internal assessment process. Selection is based on:
Relevance of the proposed opportunity to the applicant’s practice
Clarity of purpose and developmental value
Feasibility and preparedness
Potential contribution to Nigerian and Pan-African cultural visibility
